Education & Outreach

Goal

The goal of the Education & Outreach project is to develop relationships and vehicles for outreach to Sustainabiity Alliance members, policymakers, and the community at large. 

Activities

  • Provide semi-monthly e-mail newsletter, E-News, with calendar, news, and ways to connect.
  • Maintain website with information about our activities and links to articles and resources.
  • Publish sustainability-related articles and op-eds in the Durango Herald and other local media.
  • Hold educational and outreach events.
  • Establish relationships with groups in the sustainability community to leverage or coordinate efforts and create synergies.
  • Develop a Nonprofit Organization Resource Guide for La Plata County.
  • Conduct an inventory of natural, human, economic conditions in the region to establish a baseline of current conditions and understand the carrying capacity of the region.

Events

    • Appleseed Series: Exploring Local Sustainability. Past event topics have included solar power, local food, "leave no trace," and waste reduction.
    • Four Corners Green Living Expo. Annual fundraising event for the Sustainability Alliance, organized by EcoLogic Events.
    • Earth Day events
    • Green Umbrella Networking Event (November 2007)
    • Swadeshi Festival (through 2007)
    • Beaming Bioneers (October 2007)
    • Homegrown Food Conference, with Fort Lewis College Environmental Center (2007)
