Sustainability Alliance of Southwest Colorado
Policy Committee Update from Dick White
December 5, 2008
The Policy Committee did not meet in November. The following summarizes various developments that I am aware of.
- Twin Buttes. After nearly 30 hours of public meetings, the City Council voted on November 17 to approve in principle the Twin Buttes annexation and conceptual development proposal. The vote was 4-1, with the majority citing the sustainability elements of the proposal and their concern that, if the property were developed under state (35 acre plots) or county guidelines, the City would likely reap more negative impacts with few of the positives. The project now moves on to development of a preliminary plan and then the final plan, both of which are subject to additional public hearings.
- Oil and gas regulations. Also on November 17, the Board of County Commissioners has voted 3-0 to adopt the revised regulations. The adopted regulations do not include the amendment proposed by the Sustainability Alliance to ensure industry provision of information for the greenhouse gas inventory.
- Climate and Energy Action Plan (CEAP). On Wednesday, November 12, 4CORE hosted the second CEAP meeting at the DurangoRecreationCenter. The eight working groups met to receive the tentative work schedule, select interim chairs, and decide on dates for their next meetings. Please consider participating.
