Criteria undertaking advocacy. The Committee recommends adoption of the following.

  1. The issue relates to the Sustainability Alliance mission statement and merits public attention.
  2. A Sustainability Alliance committee recommends a position to the Board by a 2/3 majority of those voting; consensus is preferred.
  3. The Board endorses the recommendation by a 2/3 majority of those voting.

Twin Buttes forum

There was no consensus on the format or goals of a possible forum prompted by the Twin Buttes development. Possibilities suggested included the following.

  • Presentations about Twin Buttes as proposed, challenges arising either from proceeding with the project or denying it, and possible alternatives; small group discussion and reporting; and a facilitated general discussion.
  • Broader discussion about planning processes and goals to build consensus to guide future development.
  • Explicit effort to seek a win-win solution to the immediate challenge.

Among other comments, the following ideas/concerns came up.

  • Hosting an unsuccessful event could be a loss for the Sustainability Alliance.
  • Seeking co-sponsorship from the City and/or the developer could cast doubt on the integrity of the event.
  • Identifying the values we seek to promote.
  • Having the event broadcast (or at least taped for broadcast) on DCAT.

The Committee will meet again on Monday, August 25, to reach decisions about whether or not to proceed with the forum and, if so, how to structure it.
