Committee Goal. A brief discussion led to agreement on the following.
To track local and regional sustainability issues, formulate policy responses, and advocate for them with local government and other agencies.
Sustainability Decision Making Criteria
In preparation for the City Council sustainability study session on April 8, we agreed that we should develop a concise formulation that would fit on a business card. The ensuing discussion yielded the following text.
Side 1.
Does this decision simultaneously address short- and long-term benefits and costs for
§ the environment,
§ society, and
§ the economy?
Side 2.
Does this decision:
§ preserve or restore natural systems?
§ meet the needs or advance the welfare of all?
§ generate or retain money in the local economy?
