2007

2006
Climate Protection
Following the extended showing of “An Inconvenient Truth,” SASCO,
together with the Southwest Colorado Renewable Energy Society (SWCRES) and
other interested citizens, mounted an effort to persuade city and county officials
to take action on climate protection. Members were asked to sign a petition
to rally support for local endorsement of the U.S. Mayor's Climate Protection
Agreement.
Board Activities
Board activities in 2006 included the following.
- Remarks by Rebecca Koeppen and Werner Heiber
at the June 20 City Council meeting supporting the Sustainability
Plan for the Three Springs development. (Board member Tim Wheeler
also spoke, representing SWCRES.)
- Completion of our incorporation as a Colorado
non-profit.
- Arranging a fiscal agency agreement with the
Community Foundation Serving Southwest Colorado, enabling the Sustainability
Alliance to accept tax-deductible dues and donations.
- A brainstorming potluck meeting in August.
- Finalizing and adopting By-laws.
- Co-sponsorship on February
12 of a showing of “The End of Suburbia,” followed
by a panel discussion.
- Meeting (represented by Dick White & Pat
Robertson) with City Planner Greg Hoch to provide input about sustainability
into the Durango Comprehensive Plan revision.
- Active
involvement from several Board members in the Grassroots
Visioning Project.
- Meeting (represented by
Dick White) with the Durango Library architectural team
to discussion green building goals.
- Membership
meetings in March (open discussion) and June (presentation
of the Three Springs Sustainable Development Plan).
